Although communication skills are important for any situations, global negotiations in the international arena require supplementary skills and specific types of behavior and mindset for reaching mutual understanding and building a consensus.

○ To acquire mindset and skills to understand their counterparts' position in positively listening to them and to strategically claim one's own positions and opinions in gaining mutual trust
○ To get accustomed to the process of reaching a settlement over conflicting issues through discussion, debate and dialogue with counterparts
○ To be able to summarize different ideas and opinions of a group under given conditions
○ To acquire formulaic expressions relevant for formal addresses and writing official papers for international conferences

Students will experience a real consensus-building process at a simulated conference "Tsukuba 365体育投注 Model United Nations"(TEMUN) in discussing an authentic agenda of a UN body and practicing what they learn at the preparatory course (01ZZ331). All participants will speak in 365体育投注.

Lesson Contents
Day 0(Fri) 16:00 - Registration, 17:00 - Speech Session (to be over at 18:30)
Day 1(Sat) 9:00 - Open venue,　9:30 - Opening ceremony (Session 2), 10:00 - Session 3 (Symposium), 12:30 - Lunch, 13:30 - Session 4, 16:00 - Session 5, 18:30 - Break, 19:00 - Dinner Session (to be over at 21:00)
Day 3(Sun) 10:00 - Session 7, 12:30 - Lunch, 13:30 - Session 8 (General Assembly), 16:00 - Closing Ceremony

Students who can attend the TEMUN conference for all dates and are prepared through the course 01ZZ331 or any MUN participation.

Based on a form of post-conference questionnaire mentioning his/her own experiences (including success and failure) during the conference.

Will be distributed at the registration day of the TEMUN conference.

Reading UN papers or other documents to obtain information on the agenda and the represented country. The name of conference and agenda to be discussed at TEMUN as well as the country assigned to each participant will be announced before the preparatory course at the following sites.

Each year, participants are diverse: from those wishing to improve 365体育投注 communicative skills, to international students and 365体育投注-native speakers, in- and outside of the Tsukuba Campus, students in scientific and engineering majors as well as humanities and social sciences, graduate and undergraduate students. TEMUN is an occasion to extend and build up a new network of friends.
