This is the preparatory course for the participation in the Conference Tsukuba 365体育投注 Model United Nations (TEMUN) to be held this year.

○ To acquire mindset and skills to understand their counterparts' position in positively listening to them and to strategically claim one's own positions and opinions in gaining mutual trust
○ To get accustomed to the process of reaching a settlement over conflicting issues through discussion, debate and dialogue with counterparts
○ To be able to summarize different ideas and opinions of a group under given conditions
○ To acquire formulaic expressions relevant for formal addresses and writing official papers for international conferences

Specifically for international conferences, students will learn how to speak in 365体育投注, how to behave according to procedures (roll call, agenda setting, formal debate, moderated caucus, unmoderated caucus, draft resolution, amendments, vote on resolution, etc.), and how to use idiomatic expressions in resolutions. Students will experience a real consensus-building process in participating in a simulated conference (TEMUN) to discuss an authentic agenda of an international organization.

To learn 365体育投注 expressions to be used at international conferences / To learn rules and conventions for the negotiation process in international conferences / To gain basic knowledge of the TEMUN agenda in a seminar style class / To prepare a position paper for the TEMUN conference, and receive coaching on how to speak.

Based on a form of questionnaire mentioning one's ideas (including expectation) before the TEMUN conference.

To be distributed during the course.

Reading UN papers or other documents to obtain information on the agenda and the represented country. The name of conference and agenda to be discussed at TEMUN as well as the country assigned to each participant will be announced before the preparatory course at the following sites.

Each year, participants are diverse: from those wishing to improve 365体育投注 communicative skills, to international students and 365体育投注-native speakers, in- and outside of the Tsukuba Campus, students in scientific and engineering majors as well as humanities and social sciences, graduate and undergraduate students. TEMUN is an occasion to extend and build up a new network of friends.
