Yohei Yamawaki Selected as One of the 16 Japanese Honorees of the Forbes 30 UNDER 30 Asia 2017

Mr. Yohei Yamawaki, a student in the College of Social Sciences, the School of Social and International Studies of University of Tsukuba, was selected as one of the 16 Japanese honorees of the "Forbes 30 UNDER 30 Asia" 2017. "Forbes 30 UNDER 30" selects 30 key figures aged 30 or younger annually, from ten fields ranging from sports to e-commerce. Mr. Yamawaki is a co-founder of EVERY DENIM with his younger brother Shunsuke Shimada, and was selected as an honoree in the Retail & E-Commerce category.


The selection has been carried out targeting 30 countries in Asia and Australia. The following number of people has been selected as honorees in total so far: 76 from China, 53 from India, 29 from Australia, and 16 from Japan. Public figures including Mr. Masahiro Tanaka, Mr. Kei Nishikori, and Mr. Kohei Uchimura have also been selected as honorees in the "Forbes 30 UNDER 30 Asia" 2016, which was the first selection targeting Asian countries.


1. Background
EVERY DENIM has been selling its products since 2015 and leading a guided tour of denim factories in Setouchi in Okayama Prefecture, which is the hometown of Japanese denim. While the job market for textile industry has shrunk recently in Japan due to the low production rate of domestic apparel products, EVERY DENIM has proposed to create sustainable values by producing and selling domestic high quality denim products. Their ideas and attitudes toward their work led to this nomination to the "Forbes 30 UNDER 30 Asia" 2017.


2. What is EVERY DENIM?
EVERY DENIM is a Japanese denim brand, born in Setouchi in Okayama Prefecture, which is the hometown of Japanese denim. The company was co-founded by two brothers, Mr. Yamawaki (older brother) and Mr. Shimada (younger brother), who are currently both university students. The company sells denims with originality, which are produced cooperatively with highly skilled craftspeople of denim factories in Okayama. Their products have been sold at jeans exhibition and fitting events held in many places in Japan. Last year, EVERY DENIM products were sold at a MUJI store in Okayama as a limited time event. In addition, the company arranges study tours to denim factories, under the theme of "Thinking about the Appropriate Supply Chain".
