President Nagata, invited speaker in Beijing's First International Conference on National Science and Innovation Centers

On July 12, 2017, President Kyosuke Nagata, who was invited by the Beijing Municipal Government and the Chinese Academy of Sciences to the International Conference on National Science and Innovation Centers 2017 in Beijing, China, gave a talk on "Tsukuba Science City: From Science City to an Innovation Hub" during the plenary session.

The conference was held to share knowledge and experiences in developing and operating national science centers, laboratories and science parks, to promote collaborations among the centers around the world, and to better shape the ongoing construction of the National Science and Innovation Center based in Huairou, Beijing, which is one of three science parks being developed in the area.

Held at the Sunrise East Kempinski Hotel in Huairou District, Beijing, the conference had around 100 participants, which included officials from China's administrative agencies and academic institutions, as well as 51 international experts representing 14 science centers / parks from 12 countries around the world. From Japan, the University of Tsukuba and RIKEN were invited.

In his talk, President Nagata discussed the history and development of Tsukuba Science City, the role of the University of Tsukuba and its collaborations with the surrounding research institutions, the resulting research achievements, and the city's long-term vision, among other topics.

Discussions were held on key issues relating to the cooperation and exchanges among international science and innovation centers, and establishment of the International Cooperation Alliance of National Science Centers.
