Universiade Medalists Made a Courtesy Visit to President Nagata
The 29th Universiade Taipei 2017 was held in Taiwan from August 18 to 30. Currently enrolled and graduate students of the University of Tsukuba won a total of 23 medals (7 gold, 7 silver, and 9 bronze medals) in 12 athletic events.
The medalists made a courtesy visit to the university board of directors on October 2. The board members included President Kyosuke Nagata, Vice President for Student Affairs Shin-ichi Tamagawa, and Vice President for Education Satoshi Shimizu. The following members attended the courtesy visit. All were in the School of Health and Physical Education: fourth-year student Ms. Aimi Nouchi (Japan's flag bearer / gold medal in judo, women's group, 63 kg category); fourth-year student Ms. Yukina Hirayama (gold medal in women's 4×100m medley relay / bronze medal in women's 50m butterfly); second-year student Mr. Jun Yamashita (gold in men's 4×100m relay); fourth-year student Mr. Seiya Nakano, fourth-year student Mr. Toshima Sachiro, a second-year student Mr. Kaoru Mitoma (gold medal in men's football); third-year student Ms. Yuki Mizutani (silver medal in women's football); fourth-year student Ms. Arisa Inoue, third-year student Ms. Haruka Maruo (silver medal in women's volleyball); third-year student Ms. Haruka Enomoto (bronze medal in women's group diving); third-year student Mr. Keisuke Sakai (bronze in men's volleyball). They were accompanied to the courtesy visit by teachers in charge of their clubs.
President Nagata expressed his expectations that the athletes will do their best to achieve their next goals. The athletes then expressed their enthusiasm to keep on striving to be the number one in the world.
Members of the University of Tsukuba Swimming Team also reported the results of the 93rd Inter College Swimming Championships 2017 held from September 2 to 3; Kokumin Taiiku Taikai (National Sports Festival of Japan) held from September 15 to 16; and the 93rd Nihon Senshuken Suiei Kyogi Taikai held from September 22 to 24.
At the end of the meeting, President Nagata and the vice presidents praised the students for their performance and offered them encouraging words.
