World Cultural Council 36th Award Ceremony

The World Cultural Council 36th Award Ceremony was held at Tsukuba Congress Center on October 4th, hosted by World Cultural Council (WCC) and University of Tsukuba, as a special event of the Tsukuba Conference 2019.

The ceremony started with a welcome address by President Nagata, a salutatory address by Professor Sir Colin Blakemore, President of WCC, a congratulatory speech by Mr. Nakaoka, Deputy Commissioner for Cultural Affairs, Agency for Cultural Affairs Government of Japan, and Dr. Rene Asomoza Palacio's message on behalf of Maestro Rafael Estrada, the founder and President Emeritus of the WCC.

Professor Zhong Lin Wang, Chair and Regents Professor, School of Materials Science & Engineering at Georgia Institute of Technology, received THE "ALBERT EINSTEIN" WORLD AWARD OF SCIENCE 2019 and gave an acceptance speech. Mr. Paulo Branco, Portuguese Independent Film Producer, received "LEONARDO DA VINCI" WORLD AWARD OF ARTS 2019 and gave an acceptance speech.

Special Recognition diplomas were awarded to ten young researchers including two faculty members from the University of Tsukuba, Dr. Matsumoto Masayuki, professor of Faculty of Medicine and Dr. Shimada Yuko, assistant professor of Life Science Center for Survival Dynamics, Tsukuba Advanced Research Alliance. In addition, Jose Vasconcelos Special Recognition of Education was bestowed to President Nagata.

The University of Tsukuba Orchestra Ensemble, 箏春会 (Soshunkai) and 竹桐会 (Chikutokai) gave their musical performance and livened up the ceremony.

Ahead of the ceremony, the special lecture by Professor Sir Colin Blakemore was held on October 3rd, special lectures by Professor Wang and Mr. Branco were held on October 4th, at Tsukuba Congress Center as special sessions of Tsukuba Conference 2019.
