President NAGATA Signs LOI with University of S?o Paulo and Santa Cruz Japanese Hospital, Accompanies PM KISHIDA on Economic Mission to Brazil
On May 3, President NAGATA Kyosuke, with Executive Officer OHNEDA Osamu (Director-General, Bureau of Global Initiatives) and Deputy Director ODA Tatsuya of the University Hospital, held a signing ceremony of a Letter of Intent (LOI) regarding the training of young doctors with Mr. Renato ISHIKAWA, Chair of the Board of Santa Cruz Japanese Hospitaland Dr. Koshiro NISHIKUNI, President of Santa Cruz Japanese Hospitalin S?o Paulo. This LOI is expected to strengthen the ongoing collaboration with the Hospital by expanding the network to other nikkei hospitals (Hospital Nipo-Brasileiro, Hospital Nipo-Brasileiro de Amaz?nia, Hospital SBC, Hospital Sugisawa)in Brazil.
The following day, the University of Tsukuba delegation met Rector Carlos Gilberto Carlotti Junior of University of S?o Paulo, signing another LOI for organizing the Japan-Brazil University Rectors' Summit. Prime Minister KISHIDA welcomed this initiative in his remarks and expressed his hope that academic exchange between the two countries will be strengthened in the future.
Furthermore, these LOIs, together with the LOI on the JV-Campus Overseas Hub Initiative (South America) between Bunkyo and Japan House S?o Paulo that was signed last March, were introduced at the Japan-Brazil Business Forum held in Sao Paulo on the evening of May 4. They were introduced as part of the related MOUs/LOIs in the presence of Prime Minister KISHIDA and H.E. Mr. Geraldo Alckmin, Vice-President and Minister of Development, Industry, Trade and Services of the Federative Republic of Brazil.
University of Tsukuba was the only Japanese university to join Prime Minister KISHIDA's delegation to Brazil as part of this economic mission. We have been strategically promoting academic exchanges between Japan and Brazil by undertaking the five-year (2024-2029) "Project for Strengthening Overseas Network Functions to Promote Study in Japan (South America)" by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, and we intend to further promote education and research collaboration between the two countries in the future.
